The Gallery, including its shop and café, reopened its doors to the public from 10am on Monday 31 August.
We opened with a new, multi-channel, video portrait exhibition titled, I’m Your Man (A Portrait of Leonard Cohen) by acclaimed South African artist Candice Breitz, and welcomed you back to our international, touring exhibition Civilisation Photography Now.
What do I need to know before visiting the Gallery at Alert Level 2?
We want to make your experience as enjoyable and safe as possible. To facilitate this, we are implementing a comprehensive range of safety measures to meet Government and Ministry of Health COVID-19 guidelines. Here’s a rundown of some of the measures we’re putting in place:
- All visitors must register their visit to the Gallery by using the COVID Tracer app to scan the QR code on entry to the Gallery.
- Our friendly team who interact with public will be wearing masks and we encourage all visitors to do the same when visiting the Gallery.
- Social distancing protocols will be implemented across the Gallery, including in our café and shop to enable safe social distancing.
- Contactless payments are preferred – please bring your payWave card.
- All high-contact areas will be regularly cleaned.
- Hand sanitiser stations will be located across the Gallery.
- Some indoor areas where space is limited will offer restricted entry or be closed.
How is Auckland Art Gallery keeping visitors, staff and volunteers safe at Level 2?
We have many measures in place to keep everyone safe while visiting the Gallery. This starts with our front of house team wearing masks and encouraging visitors to do the same. We will greet you on arrival to ensure that everyone is able to register their visit by using the COVID Tracer app. To minimise contact we will have social distancing protocols in place and will encourage contactless payment. Our cleaning team will also continue to increase and monitor the sanitisation of all high-contact areas across the Gallery.
How do I use the COVID Tracer app to register my Gallery visit?
Before entering the Gallery, you must register your visit using the COVID Tracer app. Our staff will be on hand to help you with the app and, if you do not have a mobile phone, to take details on your behalf. Please make sure to say hello to us on arrival and we’ll help you from there. To support the Government’s efforts around contact tracing, admission is by COVID Tracer app registration only.
Do I need to wear a mask? Will the Gallery’s staff be wearing masks?
When visiting the Gallery, you’ll see us wearing our masks. Be assured there is still a friendly smile behind them!
While it’s not a requirement for you to wear a mask of your own, we encourage you to feel comfortable doing so.
What will be different when I visit the Gallery’s café?
Entry to the café will be via the Gallery’s main entrance only; our Albert Park café entrance will be temporarily closed. Once you have scanned the COVID Tracer QR code on entry to the Gallery – there’s no need to scan again on entrance to the café.
We’ve reduced the number of tables and chairs in our café to enable you to maintain a safe social distance from others. Our self-service water stations will be closed, but our team will be happy to bring water to your table.
Please ensure you have a contactless or cashless means of payment when purchasing food and drink from us and leave your own takeaway coffee cups at home as we unfortunately cannot accept these at Level 2.
Is the Gallery accepting cash payment?
Will I be able to use the Gallery’s cloakroom?
Our cloakroom is temporarily closed, so please travel light. We have limited capacity for you to self-check some items, like umbrellas, but please try not to bring more than is necessary on your Gallery visit.
Can I visit as part of a group?
We are unable to host groups larger than 10 people. Please ensure, if visiting as a group, there are ten of you at a maximum. Groups of more than ten will not be admitted.
How can I support Auckland Art Gallery?
There are lots of ways you can support the Gallery and our mission to remain a safe place for the enjoyment of art and a catalyst for ideas. We offer experiences that strengthen and enrich our communities, and we value collaboration and dialogue. Join the conversation today and become a Member or give a gift membership.
Another way you can support the Gallery is by visiting us during Alert Level 2 and later at Level 1 and purchase tickets to experience our international exhibition, Civilisation Photography Now. If you are not able to visit us and would like to show your support, visit our online shop, or make an online donation – every contribution you make goes towards supporting the Gallery’s work to connect art and ideas with people.
Is the Creative Learning Centre open at Alert Level 2?
Due to Covid-19, the collective activity component of All My Favourite Shapes is currently closed. Instead the artist, Sara Hughes, has created her own shape compositions for you to look at when you visit the Creative Learning Centre.
Find your favourite shapes at home. Use the colours, shapes and patterns you see when visiting this space as inspiration to create your own artwork. Share your creations on social media using the hashtag: #AllMyFavouriteShapes
The Creative Learning Centre will fully reopen at Alert Level 1.
Will Daily Tours be available?
We have temporarily suspended our guided Daily Tours at 11.30am and 1.30pm and our Mandarin language tours Thu–Sun at 12.30pm. We apologise for any inconvenience.
