Conservation is the action taken to prevent or remedy damage and deterioration to items of cultural significance.

Our conservators work to ensure the long-term preservation of the works of art in their care. They are specialists in the areas of paintings, works on paper, photographs and objects conservation. As members of the New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materials (NZCCM) our conservators abide by the NZCCM code of ethics.

In 2014, Auckland Art Gallery's Conservation Research Centre was established to ensure an on-going focus on research.
