Accessibility support for getting here
Auckland Art Gallery is located on the corner of Kitchener and Wellesley Streets in Auckland’s CBD.
The main entry and exit doors are located under the large kauri columns facing Kitchener Street. There are accessible entry and exit doors at this location.
Accessible car parks are available on Kitchener Street, approximately 10 metres' walk from our main entrance. The Victoria Street East car park, approximately 260 metres' walk to our main entrance, also has accessible car parks.
There are several bus stops near the Gallery that offer seating, shelter, computerised timetables and touch-to-speak timetables. Please check the Auckland Transport website for more information and to plan your journey.
Taxis can pick up and drop off from the loading bays on Kitchener Street, approximately 10 metres’ walk to our main entrance.
Accessibility support for entry and admission
We have three accessible doors located beside the Gallery’s main revolving doors. These are hinged, automatic opening doors and are activated by pushing a small ‘Press to open door’ button on the grey metal bollard beside each door.
Once you have entered the Gallery, you will find accessible counters immediately ahead of you at our main information desk.
There will be security near the main doors to assist and, once inside, our friendly gallery assistants will be available to help and answer questions. Our gallery assistants wear red badges with a greeting on their uniforms and offer assistance in multiple languages.
We offer complimentary Gallery entry to support workers.
Service dogs are permitted inside the Gallery.
Wheelchairs, crutches and walking sticks are available for free. Booking is recommended. To book, please call +64 9 307 7700 or email hello@aucklandartgallery.com and speak to a gallery assistant.
We have a free cloakroom where you can leave backpacks and other belongings.
Getting around the Gallery
There is step-free access to all areas of the Gallery. We recommend using the lifts from our foyer to access all exhibition spaces.
To access our lower ground level, please use the accessible lift at the south end of the Gallery. There are signs showing the way to this lift, or our gallery assistants can provide directions.
All our lifts have braille floor numbers, and an automated recording tells you what level you’re on.
Very occasionally there may be an artwork on display that doesn’t accommodate wheelchair access. Please ask a gallery assistant for advice if you have any questions.
We have printed maps available at the Gallery’s main information desk in English.
Large-print booklets are available for some exhibitions. Please ask at the front desk for details.
We offer accessible exhibition tours intermittently. Please visit our what’s on page to see upcoming accessible tours.
We also offer guided tours on request. For more information, including prices and availability, please email us or visit our tours page for updates and full information.
There is an accessible and gender-inclusive bathroom on every level of the Gallery. These are in a self-contained compartment with full privacy.
