An activist, political campaigner, and community advocate, Max Tweedie is the Director of Auckland Pride. Max worked at various NGOs and campaigned on issues such as banning conversion therapy before being appointed the youngest Director of Pride at age 21 in mid 2019.

After leading Auckland Pride through its largest Festival in its history in 2020, with a record audience and event numbers, he’s about to navigate Pride through its first month-long programme in 2021 – with once again the largest festival in its nine-year history – overcoming the impacts of COVID-19 with a strong centring in empowering, resourcing, and supporting Auckland’s rainbow communities.

Recorded in December 2020, Max Tweedie joins Auckland Art Gallery Director Kirsten Lacy to talk about what Auckland Pride Festival means to him, and its journey so far.
