Discover New Zealand’s most inspiring visual arts experience and journey through our unique bi-cultural history
Explore our four floors of exhibitions across two to three hours on an un-guided general admission visit to the Gallery. Discover the stories told of conflict and settlement, love and loss, identity and land. Learn about the country’s leading Māori and Pākehā artists and key artworks, from the contemporary art of today to Charles F Goldie’s and Gottfried Lindauer’s exquisitely detailed oil paintings of Māori chiefs. We’re open daily 10am–5pm, except Christmas Day.

If you are a group of 10 or more, an organised tour of the Gallery in either English or Mandarin Chinese is available by arrangement. We can tailor our tour for your group and highlight areas of the Gallery’s collection of artworks for your special interests. If you prefer, we can take you through our current major ticketed exhibition or offer exclusive after-hours access for your private group.
Bookings: please click here to contact us with your requirements and make your group booking at least a fortnight in advance. A charge applies.
Cancellations: there is no charge if your booking is cancelled within a minimum 24 hour notice period. However, a full fee will apply to no-shows or cancellations made less than 24 hours prior.
Talks and events
Alongside our daily and bespoke tours, we offer a series of special events – from artist and curator talks to performances, film screenings, family events and more. See what’s coming up at the Gallery.
Design shop and café
Much of what we sell in our Gallery shop is exclusive to us and specially commissioned. Browse art-inspired mementoes, prints from our collection, designer gifts and more.
Visit our licensed café to relax and recharge while exploring the Gallery. Sit outside at the edge of Albert Park or head indoors to enjoy sweet treats, great coffee and a la carte dishes.
If your group is hosting a dinner, cocktail reception, lecture or more, we offer a range of unique venues for your needs. From the modern, light-filled North Atrium to the elegant Lower Grey Gallery, sophisticated Mackelvie Gallery and sun-lit East Terrace, the Gallery’s building blends classic Victorian style with 21st-century architecture.
