Triptico Azul, Negro y Violetta (Blue, Black and Red triptych)

Triptico Azul, Negro y Violetta (Blue, Black and Red triptych) by Jesús Rafael Soto

Artwork Detail

Jesús Raphael Soto showed in the groundbreaking 1955 exhibition Le Mouvement in Paris which brought Kinetic and Op art to prominence in 20th-century practice. Exploring the illusion of movement without literally using motion, Soto’s works transform as the viewer shifts position. This work’s delicate framework of nylon filaments and suspended rods bristles like an animal’s whiskers, highly sensitised to atmospheric vibrations. ‘I wanted to incorporate the process of

transformation in the work itself. Thus, as you watch, the pure line is transformed by optical illusion into pure vibration, the material into energy.’
