Jealous Aphrodite (Venus) sends Eros to cast a spell which would cause beautiful Psyche to love a person of lowly status. Instead, Eros falls in love with Psyche and secrets her away in his palace, visiting her only during the hours of darkness. Disobeying his order that she must never gaze on him, Psyche is banished, forever wandering the earth in search of her beloved. reverse]
