The dynamic landscapes of the Pēwhairangi (Bay of Islands) in the Far North are the inspiration for the Rangi and Papa series of works by Elizabeth Ellis. The expressive and gestural brush strokes recall the artist’s Ngāti Kuta connections to Te Rawhiti Rakaumangamanga in Maunganui Bay. The series considered the relationship between Ranginui (sky father) and Papatūānuku (earth mother) and the ongoing presence in both Māori culture.
