Te Rā o Waitangi | Tour Toi o Tāmaki with Tom Irvine

Join Acting Director Tom Irvine for a special Gallery tour exploring artworks that illuminate the layered histories of Waitangi, Tāmaki Makaurau, and the surrounding whenua.

Moving through key collection spaces, with a particular focus on the Te Kawau Gallery (named after Āpihai Te Kawau), Tom will trace connections between art, place and people, highlighting how these stories intersect with the history of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, tangata whenua of central Auckland.

This tour reveals how artists have expressed identity, memory and moments of change across the Gallery’s collections. Along the way, Tom will reflect on the Gallery’s relationship to its site, its architectural messages, and the narratives held within its spaces.
