6–7pm

event Details

Tina Baum, Gulumirrgin (Larrakia)/Wardaman/Karajarri, Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art at the National Gallery of Australia, will present an introductory discussion of First Peoples’ art from Australia. Tina will showcase the diversity and the cultural, historical and contemporary positioning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, incorporating their voices and perspectives as well as representational narratives.

This insightful kōrero is the perfect introduction to our new major exhibition, Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia. Drawn from the collections of the National Gallery of Australia and The Wesfarmers Collection of Australian Art, Ever Present highlights the diverse artistic practices of First Peoples across Australia. It is a celebration of First Peoples’ art which explores the interlinking themes of Ancestors, Community, culture, colonisation, and identity.

This talk is exclusively for Gallery Members. If you have a guest pass, you can book for a friend as well. You can attend for free, or choose to pay a koha of $10 or $20; every contribution supports Gallery exhibitions and projects. RSVP required.
