Panel discussion: Exhibiting art for the now
Necessary Distraction (installation view)
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, 2015

Event Details

This is the first in a series of public forums over 2016 organised by Auckland Art Gallery to aid dialogue on topical questions for contemporary art and culture.

The first of these invites curators Christina Barton, Director Adam Art Gallery, Misal Adnan Yıldız, Director Artspace and writer and lecturer Allan Smith, to question how and why we generate exhibitions that address contemporaneity in art today. Reflecting on their recent and past experiences we will ask, is it possible for the structure of an exhibition to model the contemporary field.

This discussion takes two recent exhibitions on contemporary painting as its starting point then moves to the broader platform of exhibition making today.

Chaired by Principal Curator and Head of Programmes, Zara Stanhope.
