event Details

Join us for a New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) tour for Deaf visitors of Pop to Present: American Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This 90-minute tour will be led by Deaf artist Abbie Twiss with supporting interpretation by Platform Interpreting NZ.

Pop to Present invites visitors to explore identity, power and representation through 52 powerful works by renowned and emerging artists. Including one of Jackson Pollock’s iconic drip paintings and Alison Saar’s wood and metal sculpture, and featuring a diversity of work by women, African American and Indigenous artists, the exhibition traces key themes in American art since 1945, highlighting Abstract Expressionism, Pop, Minimalism and more.

Abbie Twiss has worked as an artist, art teacher and interpreter in Melbourne and Aotearoa. A graduate of the University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts, she has regularly exhibited since 1994.
