This Music of the Month is possibly one of our most exciting yet, with Tiny Ruins coming to perform a very special and intimate FREE solo show for us, coinciding beautifully with our new exhibition A Century of Modern Art.
Long on our wish list for a performance at the Gallery, Hollie Fullbrook is one of Aotearoa’s most internationally celebrated songwriters, with a deep well of perfectly crafted albums to draw upon. This is a rare opportunity to catch Hollie performing as Tiny Ruins during the band’s recording phase, as they work to complete the follow-up to their Taite Prize Finalist 2023 album Ceremony.
To browse the Tiny Ruins back catalogue is in itself a sort of wander through an exhibition, with each album cover featuring carefully chosen, often especially commissioned, paintings or photographs. So, we cannot imagine a more fitting soundtrack to A Century of Modern Art, a show on loan from the Toledo Museum of Art that features timeless paintings by the likes of Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Frankenthaler and many more.
Championed by the likes of The Guardian, the BBC, Uncut magazine, the New York Times, and even the late David Lynch, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be hosting this unmissable solo show from Tiny Ruins’ Hollie Fullbrook.
As usual, seats are free, and open to all ages, but space is limited.
‘Fullbrook’s hushed yet forceful songs, packed with obsessives and resilient loners, demand your full attention.’ — Q Magazine
