event Details
The exhibition Modern Women: Flight of Time highlights the leading role women artists have played in shaping the development of modern art in Aotearoa New Zealand through seizing control of their own representation. Now, to celebrate, the November Music of the Month will feature an artist whose role in New Zealand music helped redefine what a rock star looks like in this country.
Having first carved a path in local and international musical landscapes as the frontwoman for early 2000s band Fur Patrol, Julia Deans has since secured her reputation as one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most celebrated musicians, earning countless accolades for her incredible solo material. An engaged, charismatic and artistic collaborator, Deans has been involved in a string of musical projects over the years, including collaborations with SJD, Tami Neilson, and Neil Finn, as well as an impressive array of arts festival shows, orchestral collaborations, and musical theatre.
We are so thrilled to have Julia Deans joining us for a very special solo show as part of Music of the Month at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Sunday 24 November at 2:30pm. The event is free to all, and open to all ages.
Please note: The Santa Parade will be taking place on Queen Street from 1-2.30pm, so please allow additional time to get to the Gallery.
