Music of the Month | Jazmine Mary

2-3pm

event Details

October’s Music of the Month marks a powerful intersection of art and sound. As we exhibit Louise Bourgeois: In Private View, the first solo exhibition in Aotearoa dedicated to this legendary artist, we invite audiences to experience a live performance that echoes the emotional depth of Bourgeois’s work. Known for confronting themes of loneliness, sexuality, and trauma, Bourgeois’s art sets the stage for a musical guest whose own work explores similar terrain:

Jazmine Mary is no stranger to exploring such themes. An award-winning and celebrated noir folk artist, Jazmine recently released a new album, I Want To Rock And Roll on iconic homegrown record label Flying Nun.

A recent interview with respected music site undertheradar.co.nz saw editor Chris Cudby describe the work of Jazmine Mary as ‘emotionally frank, poetic and impressionistic’, while 13thfloor.co.nz’s John Bradbury imagined the music as ‘a suspended space… where strength, emotional stillness, and ambiguity sit together in quiet alignment’.

We are thrilled to finally have Jazmine and their band joining us on Sunday 26 October at 2pm for a free, all-ages show to remember.
