Experience a mesmerising musical afternoon with Calla, a modern operatic force of nature whose music transcends time and space. Known for her mastery of the human-voice-as-instrument and her skills as an electronic musician, looping artist, violinist and pianist, Calla is one of those people for whom music is not a pond lightly dabbled in, but an ocean that she calls home. Her music weaves together elements of operatic vocals, heavy bass, and influences of folk, pop, and cinema epics.
If music is the language of the soul, then Calla speaks truth in many tongues, and we cannot think of a more appropriate fit for December's Music of the Month, which aligns with the exhibition Olafur Eliasson: Your curious journey. Eliasson’s immersive artworks ‘embody transformation rather than stability’, inviting us to engage our senses, awaken our curiosity and ‘pay attention to the things we take for granted’, thereby seeing our surroundings in a new light.
Calla will perform with cellist Olivia Wilding underneath Eliasson’s mesmerising installation Under the weather, 2022 in the Gallery’s Te Atea | North Atrium. This will be a meeting of worlds we cannot wait to experience.
First in, first serve! No booking required.
