Members are invited to join Dr Erin Corrales-Diaz, Curator of American Art at the Toledo Museum of Art, and Dr Sophie Matthiesson, Senior Curator, International Art for a Members-only before hours exclusive tour of the exhibition A Century of Modern Art

Dr Erin Corrales-Diaz

Erin Corrales-Diaz is the Curator of American Art at Toledo Museum of Art. Before coming to Toledo, Corrales-Diaz was the Assistant Curator of American Art at the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts. She has also held dual posts as Curator of the Johnson Collection and Visiting Scholar at Wofford and Converse Colleges in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is a specialist in 19th- and early 20th-century American art with a particular focus on art of the American Civil War and African American art. Corrales-Diaz received her doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Master of Arts in art history from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. 

Dr Sophie Matthiesson

Sophie Matthiesson is Senior Curator, International Art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. In her role at the Gallery she has curated Manpower: Myths of Masculinity (2021) and Heavenly Beings: Icons of the Christian Orthodox World (2022 and MONA, Tasmania, 2023), both of which have associated publications. More recently she has co-curated Threads of Time: Travel, Trade and Textiles (2023–26), Gothic Returns: Fuseli to Fomison (2023–25) and The Robertson Gift: Paths through Modernity (2024). She was previously curator of international art at the National Gallery of Victoria (2006–19) where she led the 2012 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition, Monet’s Garden. Her doctoral research was on artists in prison in the French Revolution and received the Prix Marianne Roland Michel award from the Institut de France.
