Gallop into the New Year with energy, creativity and community spirit!

The Year of the Horse symbolises strength, vitality, independence, adventure and an unstoppable drive forward. People born in Horse years are known for their enthusiasm, confidence and warm, generous hearts – perfect qualities to inspire a joyful celebration.

The festivities kick off with the thunderous drums and dazzling acrobatics of the Tung Tek Lion Dance Troupe, bringing blessings of good fortune and protection for the year ahead. Join in with social line dancing and K-pop dance workshops –dancers of all ages and abilities welcome. Or spend some time at one of our crafting tables. Have your name written in Korean calligraphy, make a bokjumeoni (Korean lucky pouch), jeontong deung (Korean lantern), Chinese lantern or try your hand at Chinese paper cutting.

We will also be running artist-led workshops with Mei Ling Lee (lantern decorating), Aan Chu (zine making) and Wai Ching Chan (Chinese knots).

Come celebrate the Lunar New Year at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki – adventure, luck, and new beginnings await!
