Event Details
Absorb the sights, sounds, tastes and arts of Mexico at La Fiesta, a free and fun festival held across two central city locations in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Enjoy free tasters of tamales while you browse art, craft and food markets at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Get the whānau to participate in creating a large-scale mural with Mexican artist Mayan Quintos and watch colourful and vibrant dance performances by Ollin Yoliztli.
Across the road at Central City Library create your own clay animals, play a traditional Mexican board game, enjoy storytelling and feel your spirit soar as you listen to a live mariachi band.

What to expect

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki
Mexican market 10–5pm – enjoy some art, craft and food at our authentic Mexican market.
Whānau drop-in 10–5pm – create bracelets, headbands, flowers and brooches inspired by Frida Kahlo.
Make a mural – 10–12pm and 1–3pm – join in to help create a large-scale mural with Mexican mural artist Mayan Quintos.
Taste a tamale 11–2pm – taste samplings of delicious, traditional Mexican food.
Mexican folk dancing 12–12.45pm and 2–2.45pm – be swept up in a Mexican folk dancing performance by Ollin Yolitzl.
Live mariachi band 11-11.30am (Gallery Forecourt) and 2.30-3pm (Level 2) – tap your feet and feel your heart soar as you listen to the vivacious sounds of a live mariachi band.

Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero | Central City Library
Storytime 10.30–11am, 12.30–1pm and 2–2.30pm – hear stories about Frida Kahlo and learn some Spanish with China González.
Lotería 11am, 11.30am, 12pm, 1pm and 1.30pm (30 mins sessions) – learn to play Lotería, a traditional Mexican board game, with Paloma Mora Guerrero.
Create your own clay animals 10–4pm – create your own mini clay animals with ceramic artist Catherine Guevara.
Live mariachi band 11-30am-12pm (outside Library building) and 1-1.30pm (ground floor) – tap your feet and feel your heart soar as you listen to the vivacious sounds of a live mariachi band.
