Gottfried Lindauer is best known for his portraits of Māori yet it was his many portraits of Pākehā that were his 'bread and butter' as an artist. Former Auckland Art Gallery curator and current doctoral candidate Jane Davidson-Ladd discusses these portraits and the insights they give us into the people portrayed and their times.
