Assitant Curator Julia Waite leads a tour of her exhibition Freedom and Structure which looks at the significance of the early 1950s in the development of New Zealand painting, a period when Cubism emerged as an influential style and was described as having a ‘decisive’ effect, especially in the hands of artists such as Louise Henderson and Colin McCahon.
