event Details
Join us for a screening of The Second Interrogation by artist Wang Tuo, followed by a conversation with H E Wilco, curator of Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now and Meijing He of Art East.
The event will begin with a brief introduction to the film from Wilco, offering curatorial context and insight into the work. After the screening, you are warmly invited to stay for questions and a kōrero with Hutch and Meijing.
The Second Interrogation (2023) explores systems of power, censorship and psychological control in contemporary China. Staged as an intense encounter between an artist and a cultural censor, the film unfolds through dialogue, repetition and role reversal, gradually blurring the boundaries between authority and resistance. Drawing on historical reference points and lived experience, the work examines how ideology operates through language, surveillance and self-regulation, while asking urgent questions about the role of art today.
This screening offers an opportunity to engage with key themes in Forever Tomorrow and to reflect collectively on the film’s social, political and artistic resonances.
Please note the film is in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles. The kōrero with Wilco and He will be in English.
