Join us for an advance screening of Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood introduced by Mary Kisler, Senior Curator, Mackelvie Collection, International Art, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Tickets include a glass of wine and goodie bag. Art Lovers’ Film is a partnership between Auckland Art Gallery Membership and Rialto Cinemas.
Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood is an immersive and visually stunning journey of light and shadows through the struggles and successes of the revolutionary and controversial artist, joining him on his travels through Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, Sicily and Malta as he tries to flee his many demons.
In 2017 Mary Kisler curated the exhibition The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florence which featured Portrait of Maffeo Barberini (circa 1597) by Caravaggio, alongside works by Botticelli and Andrea del Sarto. Kisler is currently working on an exhibition on the work of Frances Hodgkins which will be on display at Auckland Art Gallery in 2019.
