Join us for an exclusive kōrero between Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki Director, Kirsten Lacy, and Matthias Arndt who has worked with Gilbert & George for nearly 30 years and is co-ordinating curator of Gilbert & George: The Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland Exhibition 2022. In this special event they will share insights to the colourful, creative and controversial world of Gilbert & George and to the making of their exhibition here in Tāmaki Makaurau.  

 

Bios 

Kirsten Lacy joined Auckland Art Gallery as Director in April 2019. She has Masters degrees in Art History and Curatorship, as well as Business Administration.  

After first curating for the Art Gallery of Ballarat and Shepparton Art Gallery, Kirsten became Director of Shepparton Art Museum, a position that she held for eight years. She was then Deputy Director of the National Gallery of Australia for over three years. 

Kirsten has been Vice President and Committee Member for the Public Galleries Association of Victoria and has judged several art prizes throughout her career. 

 

Matthias Arndt has worked with Gilbert & George since the early 1990s. He is an art expert and collector of contemporary art. The co-founder of Arndt Art Agency, he has led a successful gallery businesses in Berlin, Zurich, New York and Singapore for over two decades.   

He is a member of the Asia Pacific Acquisition Committee of Tate, chair of the Berlin Masters Foundation and was made a Knight of the French Order in 2002.
