The recipient for this year's Marylyn Mayo Internship is University of Auckland student, Heléna Lunt.
Heléna says, 'As the 2022 Marylyn Mayo Intern I am undertaking a documentation and image capture (digitisation) project on a collection of exhibition installation photographs (c1980s-1990s) held in the E H McCormick Research Library. I am working closely with the Research Library and Archives Manager and Librarian/Archivist to make a detailed assessment of this collection, as well as create a full itemised listing, re-house the collection and have it ready for digitisation. Our ultimate goal is to make this collection discoverable and accessible to a wider audience.
I have a Bachelor of Arts (Art History) and Bachelor of Fine Arts conjoint degree from the University of Auckland. I am currently completing my Bachelor of Arts Honours, specialising in Museums and Cultural Heritage. The focus of my dissertation is on the impact of digitisation on the preservation and inherent photographic values of analogue photographs in cultural heritage institutions.
As part of my degree, I have worked at the University of Auckland Special Collections Archive, specifically with the Edward William Payton Photographic Archive. I was selected for the 2021/2022 Sheldon Werner Summer Student Programme, at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum, and continue to volunteer there rehousing the Sparrow Industrial Pictures negative collection.'
