Michael Parekōwhai
The Story of a New Zealand River

Artwork Detail
Parekōwhai has contemporised and ornamented a concert grand piano, which for some is an archetypal European taonga or treasure. Adorning the piano are carved roses and arum lilies which carry the weight of celebration, yearning and loss. The lilies are tribute to an unbeatable performance, and unrecoverable music.
