Milan Mrkusich
Painting no. 3
Artwork Detail
With its concentrated colours and charged brushstrokes, Painting no. 3 is one of the most vigorous of Milan Mrkusich's 1950s paintings. The vibrant, textural oppositions of dark and light have all the senses of breaking out beyond the frame like electrostatic energy. Mrkusich's huge contribution to modernist New Zealand painting has occurred over five decades.
