Portrait of Vollard II

Portrait of Vollard II by Pablo Picasso

Artwork Detail

Ambroise Vollard, the French art dealer and publisher, championed the work of some of the greatest artists of the 20th century, including Cézanne, Gauguin, Rouault, Legér and Dufy, at times saving them from complete penury through buying or commissioning works from them. Picasso first met him in 1901 during his second trip to Paris, and included three portraits of the dealer for the Suite Vollard, which was commissioned by Vollard.
