Patrick Caulfield
Curtain and Bottle

Artwork Detail
Caulfield's highly reductive style uses the same heavy black lines that one sees in Lichtenstein. However, there is usually an illusion of depth to Lichtenstein's images, even when he enlarges an image already flattened to two dimensions by the commercial artist. Caulfield, on the other hand, makes no attempt at shading or modelling so that his forms stand as pictographs of the subject represented. (Andy and Friends, 1999)
