Rita Angus
Head of a Maori boy

Artwork Detail
This portrait was painted in Christchurch, when Rita Angus and Leo Bensemann used to regularly sketch young men from the YMCA, around the corner from their Cambridge Terrace studio. The youth's character is immediately conveyed with Angus' acute eye for personality. The painting was specially chosen by her friend Colin McCahon for addition to the collection of this Gallery.
