Stanhope Forbes
Penzance

Artwork Detail
Stanhope Forbes founded the Newlyn Art School with his close friend La Thangue and a group of other artists. Although he developed a distinctively English style of his own, he never fully discarded the rustic Realism of Jean-Francois Millet and Jules Bastien-Lepage, whose work influenced him strongly in his early years when studying in France.
