Hemi Macgregor holds a Masters of Māori Visual Arts from Massey University, where he is a senior lecturer in the Whiti o Rehua School of Art.
Macgregor works primarily in painting and installation, his sculptural works often re-presenting and repurposing everyday objects.
Outside of his individual practice, Macgregor has worked collaboratively with Saffronn Te Ratana and Ngataiharuru Taepa to create the installations *Tu te manu ora i te Rangi* (2008) and *Ka Kata Te Po* (2011). The latter was made in response to the 2007 Urewera police raids, the artists’ expression of support for those people and communities affected.
