Biography
Ambroise Tardieu was an engraver, cartographer, map, print and bookseller. Trained by his uncle Pierre Alexandre Tardieu (1756-1844) he was known for his engravings of portraits, maps and geographical subjects. Roger Collins notes that an unconfirmed source names him as the ship’s surgeon on the Coquille that visited New Zealand in 1824, but in the absence of supporting evidence this seems unlikely.
