Since 2013, Te Maari has lived in the United Kingdom. She is self-taught and one of many in a long line of expert makers practised in traditional textile and fibre arts like tāniko, tukutuku, sewing, knitting, crochet and embroidery.
Te Maari is particularly fascinated by the abstract, geometric strengths of Māori pattern-making and often incorporates these striking, graphic elements in her *Manu Figures* (2018–).
