Biography
Natalie Couch graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1998 and began exhibiting in 2003. An active member of the Māori collective Toi Whakataa, Couch’s prints have been exhibited throughout Aotearoa New Zealand as well as in France, Mexico, the United States of America and Bulgaria.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Couch’s practice explores how we, as kaitiaki (guardians), respond to the tangible and intangible elements of our natural surroundings. Her works share a reverence for whenua (land), taonga tuku iho (historic treasures) and tino rangatiratanga (Māori self-determination). Many acknowledge the spiritual integrity of her tūrangawaewae (ancestral lands).
