Biography
Eugene Kara is a multidisciplinary carver and bronze sculptor, often innovatively representing Māori history and his Waikato whakapapa (ancestry) in his artworks using modern technology with wood and stone.

He gained a Diploma in Art, Craft and Design (Māori) from Rotorua’s Waiariki Institute of Technology (now Toi Ohomai) in 1995. He continued his studies at Elam School of Fine Arts, graduating with a Master of Fine Art in 2005.

Kara has held various Māori art education and management positions, and provides cultural advocacy and leadership in many art design programmes and public sculpture project collaborations.
