Biography
Gabrielle Belz is a printmaker, painter and designer. She is a current member and former chair (2005–07) of Te Ātinga Contemporary Māori Visual Arts Committee, a founding member of the Māori women’s collective, Kauwae, and a founding member of Toi Whakataa Māori Print Collective.

Belz’s work draws on the history of printmaking in Aotearoa New Zealand and early Māori engagement with paper and the written word. Through reference to whakataukī (proverbs) and other oral traditions, weaving and carving patterns, and images of birds, Belz’s prints engage with visual and spoken histories of storytelling and narrative.
