Biography
Erena Baker is a visual artist based in Te Papa-i-Oea/Palmerston North. Baker’s practice explores photography as a tool of commemoration and remembrance within te ao Māori (the Māori worldview). Alongside her individual practice, Baker is also a member of Mata Aho Collective, renowned for their large-scale works created under a single collective authorship.
In 2009, Baker graduated with a Masters of Māori Visual Arts from Toioho ki Āpiti School of Māori Studies at Massey University, where she now works as a lecturer.
