Randal Leach graduated with a Master (Distinction) of Māori Visual Arts from Toihoukura, Eastern Institute of Technology, in 2017. He also holds a Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts from Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi (2012) and Diploma in Secondary Education from Christchurch College of Education (1999).
In his work, Leach generates contrasting and dual-toned lines of acrylic paint over circular canvas and board. Presenting lines as a symbol that accesses Te Whare Pora (The House of Learning), he celebrates highly regarded knowledge of the patterns that adorn tukutuku panels and heke rafters within whare (buildings).
