John Douglas (J.D.) Perrett (1859 - 1937), a landscape painter and pastel artist, was born in Scotland and emigrated to New Zealand circa 1886.
In 1894, he co-founded the Otago Arts Academy in Dunedin with Girolamo Nerli and Laurence Wilson. Perrett exhibited and taught art in Dunedin, Auckland, and various locations in Australia. This archive includes three sketchbooks by the artist and three typescript pages with information about him.
