Matariki: Tamariki Writing Competition

Matariki: Tamariki Writing Competition

Article Detail

For Matariki this year, the Gallery’s Learning, Kaupapa Māori and Publishing teams produced an activity booklet for tamariki and their whānau. In this booklet, we invited manuhiri (visitors) to write stories about someone important to them and, if they wanted to, share it with us to enter a writing competition.

We were absolutely blown away by the responses we received. Thank you to everyone who generously shared their kōrero with us. Ka rawe koutou! ✨

It was very difficult selecting the nine pieces of writing that we’ve published below. We were so touched by the beautiful poems, heartfelt memories, humorous stories and hand-made cards that were gifted to us.

Thank you to the nine writing superstars and their whānau for entrusting us to share their kōrero. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou.

Kua haehae ngā hihi o Matariki – The rays of Matariki are spread.
