It is with tremendous sadness today that the Gallery acknowledges the passing of Dr Marti Friedlander CNZM (1928–2016), one of this country's most beloved and passionate artists whose astute photographic eye and boundless spirit will be greatly missed. Her tremendous generosity ensured that Auckland Art Gallery, in her hometown, has become home to the largest collection of her works. Her photographs are loved and have captured the imagination of generations of New Zealanders. Our thoughts go out to her husband Gerrard, her family and her wide circle of friends.
