Artwork Information
Among the most prominent artists in Paris in the first half of the 20th century, Léger frequented the avant-garde gatherings and lived amongst the artistic community of Montparnasse. His Cubist period demonstrated a different style to that of Picasso and Braque partly in its modelling of volumes, and also in its focus on mechanical elements. Deauville illustrates a later, less formal style and subject matter, based on seaside activities and use of primary colours.
