Services at Auckland Art Gallery

Research
The E H McCormick Research Library holds an extensive collection of resources on New Zealand and international artists, artworks and exhibitions.
The library is open Wednesday to Friday from 1pm to 5pm, where one of our librarians can help you – no appointment is needed.

Conservation services
Our conservation team cares for paintings, works on paper, photographs and objects in the Gallery’s collection, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
Our Conservation Research Centre carries out technical research into the materials, making and history of artworks. This research informs conservation treatments and builds essential knowledge about works in our collection.
Get in touch with a conservator
While we do not offer conservation treatments for privately owned artworks, our conservators can offer guidance on how to care for them.
Contact the conservation team to ask about conservation guidance.

Outward loans
Our Registration team manages the outward loans programme, acting as kaitiaki and enabling the Gallery’s collection to be lent to other cultural institutions.
We lend our artworks, and partner collections entrusted to us, including the Chartwell and the Mackelvie Trust collections, to galleries and museums in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki holds over 18,000 artworks that showcase the art and people of Aotearoa New Zealand, the Pacific and many other significant and influential artistic movements from the 12th century to now.
If you work for a gallery or museum and are interested in borrowing from our collection for an exhibition, email our loans registrar at registration@aucklandartgallery.com.
Download our outward loans procedure for more information. This document will help you make a request and provides an overview of our assessment and approval process.
