exhibition Details

Artland: An Installation by Do Ho Suh and children is a collaborative hands-on installation designed by Do Ho Suh with his young daughters.

Artland is an evolving sculptural environment created from children’s modelling clay. The installation features imaginative creatures and fantastical landscapes including Noodlegrass, Blobbugs, Spocky Trees and Slimes, and invites visitors of all ages to sculpt their own creations.

The project is supported by the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust.

Yes – if no one is booked in and it is not busy with walk-ins, it is fine for you to stay and keep enjoying Artland.

Artland is open to everyone! Children must be accompanied by a caregiver at all times, and those under the age of 5 must be carefully supervised.

You will need to touch the installation to add your creation to the ever-growing Artland ecosystem. However, we ask that you limit your touching to this. The clay can break, leaving others’ artwork damaged.

All participants will be given air-dry clay in a variety of colours as they start their session.

The Artland air-dry clay is non-toxic, non-flammable, and not classified as hazardous under GHS (Globally Harmonised System for hazardous substances).

It contains no known carcinogens, irritants, or sensitizers. It is suitable for children when used under supervision and when the following guidance is followed:

  • Always supervise children, especially those under 5 or with pica/sensory conditions.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed during clay use.
  • Please wash your hands after use.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.
  • The clay is safe under normal use, but if a large quantity is ingested, monitor and seek medical advice.
  • If the clay comes into contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water, seek help if needed.
  • If the clay causes skin irritation, wash with soap and water.
  • Move to fresh air if discomfort occurs from inhalation.
