Leslie and Diana Camera, 1979

Artwork Information

Mark Amery suggests that this photograph records a ‘camera-slingers duel’, when two photographers face-off to see who is quickest on the draw to take the other’s photo. The image captures those moments of hilarity shared between friends when laughter overtakes all.

The Diana camera referred to in the title was a cheap apparatus, which despite (and indeed, because of) its numerous faults was much loved by photographers in the 1970s. (Intimate Portraits, 2005)
