Artwork Information
Qianye and Qianhe Lin are siblings who work as a duo to develop video installation, writing and performance works. Their process is highly collaborative, beginning with a script they form together and then drawing in friends and family for its production. Their storytelling is influenced by the genre-fluid themes of manga and animation, in which myth and science fiction blur together to create an otherworldly trail of character-types. These forms allow them to make the world strange, riffing on migrant experiences with highly experimental modes of storytelling. Landscapes are formed through green screens and found footage borrowed from stock images of ‘smiling’ China. The Good You, 2024 tells a story set in Aotearoa and in Hailing Island off the coast of China, interweaving personal histories with myth, martial art and magical imaginings.
