Artwork Information
Don Driver is a formidable and risk-taking artist. This relief mixes classical art techniques (chased and patinated brass) with ironic and transitory effects (metal treated as if it is merely folded and twirled cardboard). This relief could be placed outside as a wall sculpture, yet it has always been seen in inside.
The mixture of toughened fragility and impermanent strength is a feature of Driver’s sculpture of the period. The colour and texture of this sculpture has a warmth and a coolness treated as if they are engaged in a perpetual conversation. (New Visions, 2001)
