Artwork Information
A central red form is interrupted by heavy black lines which cut across the surface of the work. The simple forms and the basic composition have been deliberatley purged of any symbolic reference or realistic subject matter. Instead, Melvin Day concentrates on physical properties of paint on the canvas, creating a thick surface of impastoed paint which echoes the sculptural properties of the cliff's surface.
