Daughter of the High Chief

Artwork Information

In a scene combining glamour and humour, the daughter of the High Chief appears regal and oblivious as a white ghost haunts her from behind a French rococo-style sofa. Originally conceived as a fashion editorial for Pulp magazine in 2001, Yuki Kihara used friends as models to profile ‘urban Pacific street culture as an avant-garde movement driven by pro-Pacific thought’. In this photograph, singer Teremoana Rapley (of Upper Hutt Posse and Moana and the Moahunters) wears a shirt by World, skirt by Carlson, necklace by artist Sofia Tekela-Smith and holds a fan by artist Ela To’omaga.
